Workshop Ideas

Page history last edited by Ian Korman 13 years, 2 months ago

It was noted that workshops will be very important to giving people added incentive to come to the space. Let's organize our ideas for successful workshops.

Workshop Innovation

Innovation is one of the words that will define our community. We should definitely apply it to workshops.

Having a two main languages for our group we should try and innovate workshops so that they are more inclusive of everyone to improve them.

  • Have joint presenters: Present workshops in both Thai and English. Not everything needs to be said in both Thai and English. We can develop this as an art/skill over time. This would also be a way to promote mentor/apprentice situations as well a language exchange opportunity.
  • Have slides/handouts/online docs in both languages: we can leverage IT to simplify this process. We can 'hack' technology to create a suitable solution for our community.

We should also try to 'spice up' workshops on technical topics. Example:

Workshop Idea: Cover Google Docs features and ways it can be used for productivity, collaboration, etc.

Lame Title: Google Docs for Productivity and Collaboration

Interesting Title: What's up GDOC? - Review and Discussion about using Google Docs

Hardware Hack Ideas/Examples

If you have any hardware hack ideas or examples of cool ones we could do at the space, share them here.

http://www.instructables.com/ - a web-based documentation platform where passionate people share what they do and how they do it. Another good site for ideas is Hack n Mod, amazingly cool hacks, mods and projects.

"hack google docs - ways to use google docs that you never thought about" okay but you need to deliver on that title :)

Jan - hack google docs would be 'Part 2' in a series. I don't think many people know the basic cool features of it in Thailand (like collaboration and historical revisions!!). I heard something recently that kind of blew my mind, "An eBook knows it is being read." It also knows it was read, by whom, when, etc. Well, this is true for documents as well. The possibilities of what this means have yet to be utilized in any great way. Perfect work for a hack/mash-up.
