Pricing

Page history last edited by Jan D 13 years, 4 months ago

Please feel free to suggest a pricing model.  Write your name down so we know who suggested the pricing model.

When thinking about a pricing model think:

- What can people afford

- What numbers can we estimate (monthly total revenue)

- How it fits with a business model.

This is just ideas--reality comes when it's matched to a business model that works!

Please separate your model from the next one with a line of hashmarks like so:

Don't think we should have membership too cheap. if you charge 1000 per year that makes 80 per month, so with a very optimistic 100 member you only had 8000 baht per month. thats will be hardly enough to cover the electricity bill.

i don't think we should go under 500 for regular, 300 for students. Charge non-member 100 baht per event and you set the value of a membership. even 500 for students would be okay i think. you can still offer scholarships, etc on a case by case basis. the membership fee sets the the value of the space. better set it a bit higher and give discounts that make it seem too cheap. cheap = worth nothing

I think 500 THB a month (+ cost of transportation) is expensive for a full-time salaried worker in Thailand who probably makes around 15,000 THB to 25,000 THB . I assume a full time salaried worker would probably only use the space as a casual hang out, networking and maybe to attend events/seminars. Ideally they'd become inspired to start something on their own. I think with a monthly membership based pricing model, you would exclude these types of people.

I think Third Space has the price about right, Slightly Really expensive daily membership, Expensive monthly membership, 514 THB a month if your purchase the 6 months, 480 THB a month if you purchase for a year. Though their coffee is expensive when your coupons run out, and their food is boring. I think you'd want to reduce the cost of a daily membership to not exclude casual guests.

Entry charge is 100 THB (and you get wifi for the day and a free coffee). Slightly cheaper than True and you don't need to pay for Wifi. Slightly more expensive than your typical coffee shop.

For non-casual members I think the Thirdspace pricing is about right, in return you get access to lockers, access to a quiet floor with proper desks, meeting rooms, faxes. These things can be pay per use, for non-members. Members would also get a say in organizing the direction of the space. I think you could charge more for 24/7 access to the space with a key.

I currently spend between 120-300 THB a day where I currently work, but that gets me as much coffee (40 THB), drinks (35 THB) and food (40-60 THB) as I want. I feel it's a great value as this is really my only expense for the day. I at least spend 5000 THB/mnt. Not sure what this would work out to after food costs...but it should be more than I'd pay in membership dues. So my vote is for fair priced coffee/food for members. More expensive for non-members.

PS. Are there any good recurring billing systems in Thailand?

Disagree, singapore charges 3000 thai baht per month regularly. A .sg sw engineer might cash in 70.000 baht per month. it's pretty much proportional. the old place charged 500 even for students and we had student members signing up and paying the fee repeatedly.
Membership fees are our most important source of income. Regular sponsorship payments put us in a situation where we have to deliver something, gvmt funding might take years to get. You can work out a better projection on a 80 baht per month fee but i don't see that covering our costs.

I see the problem but if we indeed want to encourage a sizeable Thai membership I don't think we can exceed the prices offered at the 3rd Place. We could however focus on bringing in a sizeable income from Office Membership and Shops? I mean we could premium up the office membership. The shops could either be rented as space or the shops run by the club.

honestly the shops are a nice idea, but i think thats the most risky source of income. how many people can we have in the space average and would it be enough for anyone to set up shop and pay a full a fulltime staff? i doubt it. also if the shop quits the contract we will take some time to find a new lease. i think thats not possible unless we rent something in the size of TCDC and i don't think we can finance that. of course we could sell food and drinks ourself, probably on a trust basis, but don't expect it to be much. probably <1000 baht profit per month. that would be more of a service.
